All preparations for the 53rd Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair (BGJF) are now complete. The 53rd Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair will be proceeding as scheduled – February 25th to March 1st 2014, at the Impact Exhibition Hall, Muang Thong Thani, Bangkok Thailand.
According to Mr Somchai Phornchindarak, President of the Thai Gem and Jewelry Traders Association, the organizers have been receiving Fair pre-registrations at a most satisfactory rate, for both visitors and for the Business Matching Service. This stems from the long-standing reputation of the BGJF for quality and for its impeccable operations.
The street protest situation in Bangkok has calmed down significantly since the Thailand general election on February 2nd, which was held successfully with minimal incidents. Street protests, peaceful and orderly, now occur only sporadically at just a few venues. Protests of this nature will not affect the Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair, nor the visitors coming to the Fair. It should be emphasized that despite international media stories to the contrary, Bangkok is not engulfed in city-wide chaos, nor has it been. For visitors, Bangkok continues to rank among the safest cities in the world.
Thailand’s Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP), through its 62 trade offices worldwide, is promoting the 53rd BGJF among international buyers and visitors. The objective is to raise the confidence of international traders as to Bangkok being a viable venue; to relieve concerns regarding the Bangkok protest situation; and to inform visitors of the incentives available to buyers and exhibitors at the Fair. Incentives include:
- Free hotel accommodation for visitors invited to the Fair by registered exhibitors;
- ‘Duty free’ conditions for gem and jewellery products sold at the Fair – this is a waiver of the 20% duty that normally applies to items brought in for the Fair;
- Additionally, the Thai Gem and Jewelry Traders Association, organizers of the BGJF, has prepared alternative insurance for all exhibitors in cases where overseas insurers will offer no insurance cover.
The Fair organizers are fully aware of the concerns of the fairgoers. The security and safety of the Fair, of the visitors, and of the exhibitors is of paramount importance. The organizers are continuously monitoring the situation in Bangkok, and will keep the Fair’s visitors and exhibitors fully informed of all that concerns their security and safety.
