GJEPC - Second Indo Euro Jewellery Summit ends on high note

May 2010

The second Indo Euro Jewellery Summit has been concluded on a positive note after 4 days of one-to-one meetings between manufacturers and retailers.

Retailers from all over Europe showed up for the second Indo Euro Jewellery Summit, held in Mumbai from 27-30 April 2010. On the programme were 2 days of intensive one-to-one meetings between these retailers and Indian manufacturers, followed by equally intensive factory visits.

“Once again, the wrap up with the European retailers and our own manufacturers has proved that this format is a winning combination” says Vasant Mehta, Chairman-GJEPC.”First, we allow all parties to get to know each other in the comfortable surroundings of a 5 star hotel and then we leave the retailers the choice of the factories which they want to visit based on their compatibility. Both parties are very happy with these arrangements, which allow for in depth meetings of sometimes more than 2 hours. I believe this is a welcome change from the often hectic schedules during trade fairs, and one that truly builds good relationships,” concludes Vasant.

“I have gone through a very intensive schedule in the last 4 days,” said Oivind Bergstrand, CEO from Arte, a leading Norwegian retailer, “but it was worth every minute of it. This has been an excellent way to get an immediate overview of Indian manufacturing and design strengths, and although we did not immediately place orders, we did identify a number of manufacturers that we will start to work with on specific designs. All in all, this has been a very rich experience, it really made for a fundamental mindshift and appreciation of Indian capabilities”.

Benelux-based Didier Verhille, CEO of the Bijorca retail and wholesale group had similar experiences. “I came here with a very precise idea of a new collection that I wanted to work on, and I had a very clear picture of the kind of manufacturer that we wanted to work with. We were fortunate to almost immediately identify a number of Indian manufacturers that we felt happy with, and so, at the end of long face-to-face meetings, we already placed a number of orders. The bonus is that we also managed to see the rest of the participating manufacturers in a very short time, so we know what further possibilities there are in India for us.”

Indian participants included Bombay Jewellery Manufacturers, Dimpex Jewels Pvt Ltd, Elegant Collection, Fine Jewellery Manufacturing Ltd, Dinurje Jewellery Ltd, Inter Gold (India) Pvt Ltd, Intercarat Jewelry Pvt Ltd, Jewel Art, Jewelex India Pvt Ltd, KBS Designs, Mohit diamonds Pvt Ltd, Patdiam Jewellery Pvt Ltd, Priority Jewels Pvt Ltd, Shankar Jewels Ltd and Sunjewels International Ltd.
