écile Guenat, Creative and Development Director at Richard Mille, drew her inspiration for the RM 07-01 Coloured Ceramics from the Italian artistic and architectural movement of the 1980s known as “Memphis Design”.
“I find Memphis Design particularly fascinating in its diversity and freedom,” she notes. “The creators’ goal at the time was to escape the strictures of Modernist aesthetics and they were pioneers in the use of all types of materials through their designs. At the heart of the design process for this collection was the idea of juxtaposing colours in materials. Then we enriched the work by layering in the ancient craft of guillochage. This creates a symbiosis of ultra-modern and traditional watchmaking techniques.”
- The RM 07-01 Coloured Ceramics is available in three pastel hues: blush pink, lavender and powder blue. A grey PVD-treated red gold dial showcases the engraved Memphis motif, surrounded by other decorative detailing in coloured ceramic, laser-cut rubber appliques and diamond-set elements.
This collection is available in three summer-inspired colours, blush pink, lavender and powder blue TZP ceramic. The Tetragonal Zirconia Polycrystal (TZP) ceramic used for the bezel and caseback is renowned for its lightness, strength and colour-retention properties.
Affixed to a white gold microblasted caseband with polished pillars, the bezel protects the in-house skeletonised automatic winding CRMA2 movement. As usual with Richard Mille, grade 5 titanium is in the spotlight, used for the bridges and the baseplate. All components are skeletonised to allow maximum light to pass through and fill the space.
The CRMA2 sports a variable-inertia balance maintaining perfect long-term performance, and a variable-geometry rotor in 5N 18K red gold that adapts the winding of the watch to the wearer’s activity. Combined with a full involute gear train, it provides the ideal balance between performance and accuracy, supplying the RM 07-01 with a power reserve of approximately 50 hours.
