e Damier de Louis Vuitton captures the iconic, strong identity of the Maison’s historic Damier pattern – now expressed in a collection of modern and tactile jewels that radiate with the same magnetic touch of infinity.
In 1888, Louis Vuitton and his son Georges Vuitton set out to create a clear and distinctive marker of Louis Vuitton – a seal that would differentiate the Maison from the competition. Inspired by its birth year and notably the three number eights, the Damier pattern expressed notions of infinity and limitless eternity.
Adorning trunks and luggage, Damier became a strong symbol of originality and authenticity, key codes that have anchored its longstanding evolution. Today, more than a century on, Damier continues to transcend time.
The iconic pattern now welcomes a fresh new expression in Fine Jewellery. Available in either yellow or white gold, the design features gold squares and diamond that reinterpret Damier’s unmistakable form. “It is a diamond collection that is not just about the stones but the pattern that they create,” says Francesca Amfitheatrof, Artistic Director for Watches and Jewellery.
The gold’s polished tactility expresses a moving sensuality, complemented by a pure and geometric centre line that lends a striking sharpness and sophistication. Exquisitely crafted for a unique fluidity and continuity, the pieces wear like a second skin, not unlike the softest knitwear.
Channeling the Maison’s history with timeless, stylised pieces, Le Damier de Louis Vuitton feels like it’s long been a part of the Maison, speaking to all and transcending genders and generations. It also celebrates the authenticity of our bonds and emotional connections, with pieces worn continuously. “Le Damier de Louis Vuitton embodies what modern jewellery is all about,” says Amfitheatrof.
The mainstay of this new Fine Jewellery Collection is the ring. Emanating a pure and dynamic energy, the ring is the cornerstone of the Collection – a crowning inspiration that’s instantly contemporary, impactful and unisex.
The ring debuts in three different widths: available in either yellow or white gold, leaning into Damier’s limitless possibilities for stacking, layering and styling – and multiplying the inherent infinity that the design possesses. Versatile and beyond borders, the ring comes in two distinct styles: an elegant, everyday version features two glistening rows of gold and diamonds. Meanwhile a more graphic design is set across four rows of gold and diamonds, presenting an especially striking and statement-making piece.
The new bracelet takes it cue from the original tennis bracelet’s casual luxury. “I thought about the classic tennis bracelet – always in motion and always on your wrist,” says Amfitheatrof. Amfitheatrof was inspired by the legendary tale of the jewel’s namesake, when a match during the 1978 US Open had to be stopped after a player lost her diamond bracelet – the game resuming only after the jewel was safely retrieved. Gentle and soft, the bracelet stylishly represents a match between the Maison’s legacy and the reinterpretation of a classic, set in a timeless and cool, unmistakable Louis Vuitton design. Expertly crafted for maximum fluidity and tactility, the design’s repeated pattern creates a wonderful suppleness.
Exuding a touch of infinity and endless possibility, Le Damier de Louis Vuitton debuts in 12 extremely tactile pieces.
The collection also includes a chic, single round pendant studded with diamonds, set on a slim yellow gold chain. Meanwhile, a pair of diamond-set yellow gold hoop earrings come in a sculpted, stacked form, again structured around the collection’s signature geometric central line.
Like the must-have ring, the collection – unisex, easy to wear and a true second skin – is a strong and timeless collection set to ignite a new chapter of Fine Jewellery at the Maison.
“Le Damier de Louis Vuitton is the creation of a new era, a modern collection designed to last forever,” says Amfitheatrof.
