he coil is not simply a carrier for jewellery. It is a piece of Niessing DNA. Everything began more than fourty years ago with a simple yet radical question posed by Ursula Exner: Why must pendants have large drill holes and loops just to fit onto a chain? And why does a necklace not automatically follow a harmonious, circular form around the neck – regardless of the pendant?
Her goal: a jewellery carrier in the spirit of the Bauhaus – reduced, clear, functional and almost invisible. At the time, the jewellery world was rigid. Pendants were fixed or required bulky loops. A small team of workshop manager and technician began to develop the idea further. Inspiration came from music: guitar and violin strings showed how a line can be flexible and yet dimensionally stable.
For more than fourty years, the Niessing Coil has changed the way we understand necklaces. It follows the organic line of the neck and allows pendants to appear free – without a visible eyelet.
Its calm creates focus, its reduction creates expression, its construction creates lightness. The coil is a symbol of the interplay between idea, technology and goldsmith craftsmanship: a precise line of gold or platinum that makes the essential visible. A piece of Niessing DNA: clear, reduced, consistently designed and at the same time sensual in expression.
An icon of modern jewelry culture – and to this day a living system for personal forms of expression. It begins with a line. Fine as a thought. Light, calm and enduring. A coil – so delicate it is barely felt, yet strong enough to carry everything that matters.
In 1986, a groundbreaking innovation – a departure into the modernity of jewelry. It connects: memory with the present. It holds – and at the same time allows freedom. A line drawn by hand, now captured in gold or platinum. A quiet expression of attitude, style and feeling. The Niessing Coil follows a proven principle: form follows function. And yet it is far more than that.
It is thread, line, sign. A piece of jewelry – reduced to the essential. Every coil leaving our manufactory speaks of precision, patience and craftsmanship. Designed and created by people who know that true beauty does not need to be loud – but honest. Celebrate 40 years of the Niessing Coil with us!
The coil is like a wave of silence. Metal that behaves like water. Gold or platinum that settles as calmly as a line of wind. It holds without keeping hold. It allows jewelry to float and thoughts along with it.
It is a luxury that does not show off, but concentrates. Every detail counts – not because there is much, but because nothing is too much. It is the luxury of the Bauhaus: Form follows function. Beauty follows clarity. The Niessing Coil is the result of consistent simplicity: a fine line drawn in precious metal. A piece of jewelry that removes everything superfluous – and that makes everything meaningful that way.
In the manufactory, it is created winding by winding, step by step. Drawn from gold, from platinum, and from the will to make the essential visible. What remains is a filigree line that is stronger than it appears. A piece of jewelry that does not only connect, but creates relationship.
It is never neutral. That is precisely the power of the Niessing Coil. It speaks through what it shows – and through what it allows to disappear. Worn on the body, close to the skin, it communicates quietly, yet immediately: Clarity. Attitude. Personality.
