Victor Mayer - Intensity of Colours

October 2012

Victor Mayer is making a clear statement with its new ring collection. The highlight is the intensity of the colours - bold, perky and playful.

The gemstones used are of exquisite quality, only a perfect cut enables the full intensity of sparkle to be achieved. The designers at Victor Mayer take their time in finding the perfect harmony between fire enamel and gemstone, as a consequence it is not unusual for them to drive to Idar-Oberstein with the enamelled rings in order to search for the perfect stone there.

The glass melting process that gives the jewellery its unmistakeable, sophisticated sheen is conducted today using the same complex process that was employed in the past: up to five layers of pigment are applied with equal measures of skill and patience, before being fired and then polished by hand. The end result is achieved as the consequence of sensitive interplay between time and temperature. The slightest inclusion in the enamel bears witness to the hand craftsmanship employed, making each individual jewel unmistakeable. Victor Mayer manufactures fire enamel pieces in numerous colours: from fiery red to intensive green and deepest black, forming the perfect stage for selected gemstones or exquisite engravings.

Jewellery in genuine so-called fire enamel is extremely rare, as this method of manufacture has all but died out in this age. This serves to make these rarities all the more coveted by collectors and lovers of exclusive craftsmanship.

Traditional techniques such as guilloché and hand engraving are specialities of the Pforzheim-based manufacture. With the highest precision, sweeping lines are hand-engraved at distances of tenths of a millimetre onto the metal surface of the piece. Some of the mechanical machines used by the guilloché experts in this are up to 100 years old and genuine rarities.

Each piece of Victor Mayer jewellery is produced in a strictly limited and numbered edition which is recorded in the archives of the company.
