Hatton Garden jewellers, London Rocks, has been invited to showcase a selection of their hand made designs in the prestigious Window Galleries at Canary Wharf’s Jubilee Walk, One Canada Square.
The exhibition will run until 28 October. In true London Rocks style the jewellery is not merely beautifully displayed but the exhibit is the result of much research into the cultural and mythological significance of apples which act as props in the display. The apples are not only exquisite in themselves but add a dazzling, seasonal backdrop for the precious jewels.
The visible text below the apples is a quote from ’The Song of the Wandering Aengus’ by WB Yeats. It’s a sad but romantic poem of lost love referencing Aengus the Celtic God of love and beauty. The poem depicts the God as a man who wanders out into the woods with a hazel fishing rod. To his surprise he catches a trout and starts a fire to cook the fish, but is however distracted by a glimpse of a ’glimmering girl’ calling his name.
He searches for her unsuccessfully and grows old all the while hoping she will return, so that they will ’kiss and hold hands’, and pick the ’silver apples of the moon’ and ’the golden apples of the sun’ until the end of time.
The display showcases finer more expensive pieces alongside some more affordable silver designer pieces with prices from £300 - £3500. Gemstones include smoky quartz, blue and green tourmalines.
London Rocks is about to move to a bespoke new shop with a wonderful workshop visible below the glass shop floor on Hatton Garden’s Leather Lane. The store aims to give customers an inspiring experience when choosing jewellery. Each item is hand-crafted by some of the most talented young and emerging designers from the UK and beyond. The workshop is where the magic happens and specialist bespoke commissions are created, from concept to finished article.
