iKuria - “vitamin jewellery”

October 2012

iKuria is an emerging independent fine jewellery brand founded by London-based Japanese designer Ikuko Kurahone.

She came across the idea of producing “vitamin jewellery” when she worked in busy news rooms. She met many business women while she worked as a journalist for nearly ten years in financial centres such as Tokyo and London. As she always had a passion for fashion, she started thinking about creating something to make the female corporate outfit stand out from men’s business attire.

Ikuko loves feminine accessories but found that handbags and shoes got worn out quickly as she hurried from one news event to another. That was when she realised that jewellery was the most wearable and durable feminine accessory.

Since many of her colleagues had shared stories behind their jewellery with her, too, she began her quest to design her own jewellery and would spend months designing even a simple piece of jewellery to pursue perfection. Working with precious metals, coloured gemstones and diamonds, she designs jewellery as subtle luxury to wear every day, adding sparkle and confidence to the wearer.

Ikuko draws inspiration from her experience and human energy—books she has read, dance performances she has watched, cities she has visited, science she has studied.

In June 2012, iKuria was selected by celebrated jewellery curator Elizabeth Galton for her top 10 at the Treasure show during London Jewellery Week.
