Hoover & Strong and SNAG Harmony Jewelry Design Competition

September 2010

Hoover & Strong and the Society of North American Goldsmiths (SNAG) have joined together to create the Harmony Jewelry Design Competition, for production jewelry.

The competition is named after Harmony Metals™, the environmentally sustainable metals from Hoover & Strong, leaders in the jewelry industry for recycling, reusing, and refining.

Professional jewelry makers and jewelry students will compete in separate categories, with 1st, 2nd and 3rd place awards in each category. This 1st year the top winning piece will be manufactured and distributed nationally by Hoover & Strong with profits from sales going to benefit the Nature Conservancy. The student award winners will each receive scholarships.

Designs will be judged by nationally known jewelry designers for the use of Harmony metals, innovative design that honors the environment, and for producing a well-designed piece within specific pricing, production and profitability criteria. Ultimately, the winners receive the honor of a national award, their names publicized in nationwide marketing, and to be a part of a truly remarkable shift to environmentally sustainable materials in the jewelry industry.

Established in 1912, Hoover & Strong is a manufacturer and refiner of 100% recycled precious metals, and a supplier to metalsmiths, large jewelry manufacturers, diamond houses and distributors. Their services include custom casting, diamond settings, assembly, finishing and refining. Founded in 1969, SNAG publishes both the art journal Metalsmith and a web-based newsletter. They produce an annual educational conference and traveling exhibitions.
