The Contemporary Designer Showcase was conceived by the founders, Thomas Faerber and Ronny Totah, and curated by jewellery historian, journalist and author, Vivienne Becker, for Vivarium, a new, authoritative jewellery platform that brings jewels and their stories, both past and present, to life.

The Contemporary Designer Showcase will highlight the creativity and originality that keeps the jewellery world alive, dynamic and continually evolving. The Showcase will have its own specially designed conceptual space at the heart of the exhibition, emphasising the individuality of each designer and creative vision.

Some designers, such as Emmanuel Tarpin and Ninotchka Jewels are young and new, making their way in the industry, while others like Nadia Morgenthaler and Alexander Tenzo, both with specialist skills and expertise, are intensely private, and all the names are “under-the-radar”. While the styles are very different, showing an exciting breadth of creative vision, each has a strong identity and point of view that both celebrates and challenges the traditions, materials and techniques of precious jewellery.

While GemGenève reinforces the core strengths of the gem and jewellery industry, the close-knit family-like network of gem merchants, jewellers and antique jewellery dealers, the founders are also committed to nurturing new talent, bringing to light new ideas, concepts and visions, introducing new designers to collectors and connoisseurs around the world. In this way, the Designer Showcase is very much part of their overall mission, to reveal the secrets of the international world of gem and jewellery trading, to show how gems and pearls and precious materials are transformed into jewels, artworks and treasures in each new generation. Showing a universe of jewellery, thousands of years old, still rich, vibrant and in continual evolution.
