From Wednesday, the 4th to Sunday the 8th of September 2013, Chikashi Miyamoto of Rosy Blue will be taking part in the Turin – Monte Carlo cycling challenge to support Akshaya Patra, the international charity providing food for education to children in India.
The cycling challenge will cover 470 km (292 miles) of distance and 11,700 m (38,400 ft) of climbs encompassing some of the most challenging mountain passes featured in previous Giro d’Italia routes. The challenge includes climbing 6 passes that stand over 2,000 m with the highest point reached on Day 3, Col Agnel / Colle dell’Agnello standing at 2,748m, sixth highest paved road in the Alps. As a point of comparison, this year’s Tour de France had only 1 pass over 2,000 m, and it was at exactly 2,001 m. Chikashi is aiming to raise £20,000 / $30,000 / €24,000.
The Akshaya Patra Foundation provides food to children who would otherwise need to forego education for income by entering child labour and consequently be entrapped in poverty and misery. Akshaya Patra was founded on the vision that “No child in India should be deprived of education because of hunger” and implements Mid-Day Meal programmes in 19 locations across 9 states in India.
