The Dépaysement collection presented at Biennale des Antiquaires 2012 maps out an otherworldly itinerary of styles and creativity. This new Cartier High Jewellery collection takes us to the four corners of an inspired world, and leads us to discover four universes: urban, luxuriant, solar and boreal landscapes… Highlights of the 148-creation collection include twelve precious objects and five High Jewellery watches.
The urban landscape is a universally familiar setting that is decidedly modern. The pieces native to this landscape exhibit radical design in every last curve. This graphic world references architecture and geometry and showcases movement through the use of illusions and optical effects. Forms are pared-down; lines are taut. |
Cartier invites us to discover a garden, in a spectacular expanse of colours and depth. This opulent flower bed twinkles with high jewellery pieces gleaned from a vibrant rainbow of inspiration. Vivid colour palettes emblazon a wide variety of three-dimensional volumes and forms.Cartier’s beloved bestiary is well represented in largely abstract renderings of bird, turtle, salamander, panther and snake. Diamond is the signature theme that sets the entire landscape ablaze. |
The journey continues on to a rocky landscape where all is reminiscent of earth and sand. The warm golden palette of brown, sandy and ochre hues extends as far as the eye can see. Various plays of light create a mood of abundance and calm in these compositions.Shapes are round, concentric and supple, with curves employed generously throughout. |
Onwards northbound to vast expanses inspired by aurora borealis. The design is as light, delicate and polished as snow crystals. Nuanced plays of shade emerge from a cool colour palette concentrating on contrasts of blue and white. Opaque, transparent, matte and shine effects are juxtaposed: rock crystal offers transparent hues and blue-tinged chalcedony delivers translucent depth.
This icy world introduces the bear, tiger, emperor penguin and other newcomers to the Cartier bestiary. Clusters of omnipresent frost and snow create individual bejewelled pieces from exquisitely refined materials that are as pure as the driven snow. |
