“What is better than a heart-shaped diamond for Valentine’s Day?” asks Avner Sofiov, President of Tzoffey’s 1818 auction house, which is offering a massive 73.85 carat heart-shaped diamond at a B2B diamond auction taking place during the International Diamond Week in Israel, which opens on Valentine’s Day and lasts until February 18th.
“A heart-shaped stone of this size is truly exceptional. It is not just the size of the stone, but also the fact that the shape of the diamond is particularly rare,” explains Sofiov, adding that the diamond was cut from a much larger rough diamond.
The heart-shaped diamond, which is of L color, VS2 clarity and Very Good cut, was cut in Israel, which is a world-class center for manufacturing large and special diamonds. “Israeli diamantaires are well-known for buying and polishing exceptional stones,” says Sofiov. “In fact, most of the large diamonds available are destined for Israeli manufacturers.”
Upon being asked if Tzoffey’s is optimistic that the diamond, which has an estimate of some US$3 million, will be sold, Sofiov enthuses: “Every diamond finds its customer and the auction is the best way to do this. This is especially true during Diamond Week when there are so many buyers coming to Israel.”
“The happy buyer will have a very special Valentine’s Day,” concludes Sofiov. And so will the recipient of this fabulous diamond.
