For the first time, the show utilises the Atrium Link Expansion of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC). The expanded HKCEC will allow more companies to promote their products and services to international buyers.

It is expected that the 2010 Hong Kong International Jewellery Show will attract more than 2,700 exhibitors from 48 countries and regions. Major exhibitors have already confirmed their participation, including Royal Gem from Belgium, Paul Wild from Germany, Man Shan Jewellery Co Ltd, Rio Pearl, Waddy Jewellery Group Limited, Nelson Jewellery Arts Co Ltd from Hong Kong, Busatti SRL from Italy, Lili Diamonds from Israel and London Pearl from the UK.

Hong Kong is the perfect place to stage a jewellery industry event, given its expertise in this sector. Its own jewellery manufacturing industry is a sparkling success story: Hong Kong is the world’s fourth largest exporter of fine jewellery after Italy, the US and India. Hong Kong’s total exports of fine jewellery amounted to US$2.4 billion in the first nine months of 2009. Exports to the Chinese mainland increased by around doubled compared with the same period last year.

Jewellery, once the prerogative of the high-end market, now closely follows trends in fashion, allowing the industry to target the younger, middle-income market segment, often in the form of branded jewellery. In response to this trend, HKTDC once again presents the ’Hall of Fame’. This prestigious zone presents international jewellery brands characterised by superb design and excellent workmanship.

New this year is the ’World of Glamour’, a top-class zone located in a prime position in Hall 1, showcasing fine jewellery from Hong Kong-based exhibitors.

Other themed zones are featured at the fair. The ’Hall of Nature’ offers top-quality loose diamonds, gemstones, pearls and other precious materials, ’Hall of Extraordinary’ puts fine jewellery in the limelight, in appropriately elegant and discreet surroundings conducive to serious business negotiations. ’Designer Galleria’ features hip collections from designers; ’Hall of Antique & Vintage Jewellery’ exhibits a wide variety of vintage pieces in fashion during various periods. ’Exclusive Showroom’ presents superb pieces of fine jewellery, diamonds and pearls. Exhibitors and buyers can meet in absolute privacy in adjacent exclusive meeting rooms. ’Hall of Jade Jewellery’ highlights top-grade jade pieces; and ’Hall of Time’ displays watches, and a wide variety of clocks, from the traditional to the contemporary.

Exhibitors and buyers at the last fair expressed their appreciation of the Hong Kong International Jewellery Show. Among them was Andrea Visconti, owner of Giorgio Visconti Spa from Italy. “We are an Italian-based company, with markets in Western Europe, US, Russia and Eastern Europe. We now want to broaden our market to Asia, including the Chinese mainland, which is why we have joined this show for the first time. We must understand what the market needs here, and this is the best place to promote our brand to Asian customers. Having said that, we’ve seen buyers from around the world here – including American buyers that we don’t meet at fairs in the US!”

Buyer Richard Mick, Senior Vice President of World Pacific Jewelry from USA, said, “This Hong Kong show is the best in the world for new products. I’m here to look for pearls, semi-precious stones and packaging for our customers, which include large chain stores."

The Hong Kong International Jewellery Show also plays a role in enhancing the creativity of the Hong Kong jewellery industry. HKTDC will once again join hands with the Hong Kong Jewellers’ & Goldsmiths’ Association, the Hong Kong Jewellery & Jade Manufacturers Association, the Hong Kong Jewelry Manufacturers’ Association, and the Diamond Federation of Hong Kong, China, to organise the 11th Hong Kong Jewellery Design Competition under the theme of ’Jewellery without Boundary’. More than 320 entries have been received and the winning pieces will shine at the fairground where they will be on display.

The show will also offer a range of seminars so that all participants can obtain and exchange the most up-to-date industry information.
