New York—Silver Marketing International (SMI) has named Robert Lee Morris as its inaugural “Designer of Distinction,” a recognition celebrating Morris’ 40 years of artistry in silver.
In honor of Morris’ 11 years as one of multichannel retailer QVC’s premiere jewelry designers, SMI presented Morris with the award at QVC’s headquarters in West Chester, Pa.
The Aug. 29 ceremony took place in conjunction with Morris’ QVC appearance in the “Sterling Designer Gallery” broadcast, which was led by SMI Director Michael Barlerin.
“There could not be a more appropriate recipient of SMI’s inaugural Designer of Distinction award than Robert,” Barelin said in a media release. “His work over the years reflects the forefront of jewelry as wearable art. While Robert has earned multiple prestigious honors and awards in the fashion, accessory and jewelry industries, his passion for silver and his pure, sensual and iconic work in this magical metal remain his hallmark.”
QVC Director of Jewelry Merchandising Debra Puzio added, “Robert’s contribution to QVC and to the jewelry industry as a whole is unsurpassed. We are thrilled that he is being recognized for his years of dedication to the art of design.”
An initiative of the Washington-based Silver Institute, SMI’s primary objective for 2009 is to enhance the image and increase the awareness and sales of designer silver jewelry lines in the United States.
