Let’s Talk Stones - exhibition at the Diamond Museum of Antwerp

November 2009

29/10/2009 - 16/2/2010 - Diamond Museum of the Province of Antwerp

’Let’s talk stones’ is an exhibition based on invented stories in which diamond objects or diamond stones play a (leading) role. Every detail of the story is theatrically ’staged’, providing fascinating tableaux vivants in which a whole variety of diamonds/diamond objects ’perform’ alongside other props.

The visitor looks, listens and interprets the role of the diamonds/diamond objects, or even creates his or her own story line!

Stones and (diamond) objects that speak... Apart from ’stones’ and diamond objects, the exhibition also presents a replica of Stanley Kubrick’s space helmet from the film ’2001: A Space Odyssey’, a photograph by the contemporary art photographer Thomas Ruff (°1958), Märklin trains, a drawing by Leon Spilliaert, exclusive German wine from the Egon Müller, Scharzhof winery, and the like.

The diamond objects include an eighteenth-century French dance-book, a nineteenth-century carcanet or necklace (the precious stones being sewn onto a velvet neckband; the ’solitaire’ ring belonging to the Dutch actress Sylvia Kristel (°1952), etc...
