Shaill has been named the winner of National Jeweler’s June “Best Of” contest for gold jewelry.

Shaill’s 18-karat gold cuff with diamonds and enamel

The New York-based designer’s 18-karat gold cuff accented with diamonds and enamel caught the eye of National Jeweler’s panel of judges, including jewelry editors Victoria Gomelsky and Lorraine DePasque, as well as the Jewelry Information Center’s Amanda Gizzi.

Designer Shaill Jhaveri says he draws inspiration from his youth in India and recent travels to the Far East, and he describes his 18-karat gold pieces, including the winning cuff, as “cross cultural contemporary.”

“Clean silhouettes and styles reflect hints of Eastern cultures, Sanskrit texts and exotic lands,” Shaill wrote of his designs. “The cuff here uses the word ’Ankurit,’ meaning a spiritual beginning or awakening.”

Judges also chose four designers, K. Mita Design, Lattis Design, Milus and Nina Basharova, as finalists in the contest.
